Traditional USA
All ages
Formation: circle
Teacher picks a child to step into the middle to jump when the verse is finished child stays in the middle and chooses someone at the end of the verse to join him. The last time everyone re-joins the circle.
Hannah discovered that this dance works well for parents and babies dancing together. When dancing with babes in arms, face the baby out. Dancers do not need to join hands as they circle, but instead are encouraged to smile and wave as the baby who is dancing in the center passes them by. All those smiling faces are contagious!

Lyrics

Chorus: We’re floating down the river. Join hands and walk slowly to the left.
We’re floating down below,
We’re floating down the river To the Ohio.

One in the middle and you can’t jump Josie, Jump!
One in the middle and you can’t jump Josie,
One in the middle and you can’t jump Josie,
Oh my Susan Brown. Chorus:

Two in the middle and you can’t jump Josie, Jump!
Two in the middle and you can’t jump Josie,
Two in the middle and you can’t jump Josie,
Oh my Susan Brown. Chorus:

Four in the middle and you can’t jump Josie, Jump!
Four in the middle and you can’t jump Josie,
Four in the middle and you can’t jump Josie,
Oh my Susan Brown. Chorus:

Eight in the middle and you can’t jump Josie, Jump!
Eight in the middle and you can’t jump Josie,
Eight in the middle and you can’t jump Josie,
Oh my Susan Brown. Chorus:

Get out of there if you can’t jump Josie X3
Oh my Susan Brown.

Note: In the traditional version there would be one child in the middle for the first verse who would then choose another person to join for the second verse. The both would choose to make 4 and they would all choose to make 8.
